The Shepherds | The Backstory Week 4 | Advent Message
This morning, we want to consider the role of shepherds, not only in the Bible, but also specifically in the Christmas story. Due to their importance and connection to the Passover lambs of Jesus’ day, it is incredible to see that the shepherds, to whom were given the angelic announcement of the birth of the Messiah, were the VERY ones raising lambs for Temple sacrifice. Their lambs pointed to THE LAMB of God, and what He would accomplish on the cross for them!
Merriam-Webster’s online dictionary defines “advent” as the arrival of a notable person, thing, or event. This is reflective of the arrival of Jesus Christ to this earth a little over 2,000 years ago. He is definitely a NOTABLE person who did and accomplished a NOTABLE thing through a NOTABLE event.
